Activities

The tiny town of Las Galeras and the surrounding area has plenty of activities to keep you busy while you enjoy your stay at Villa Punta Coral.

Whale Watching

From mid January to the end of March the humpback whales gather in Samana Bay to give birth and mate. The opportunity to see the whales perform their breathtaking maneuvers as the males compete for the females should not be missed. Numerous tour operators in Las Galeras and Samaná offer excursions.

Horseback Riding

Taking a horseback trip along the beaches and surroundings of Las Galeras is an unforgettable and fun experience that will also give you a better understanding of the area and the way of life. Several recommendable outfitters in Las Galeras organize a variety of excursions, including Karin at La Hacienda and Rudy’s Rancho.

Diving & Snorkeling

There are a small selection of dive centers in Las Galeras where you can join a dive trip or take a dive course. One owner operator dive shop that has been in Las Galeras for some time now and is run by a lovely couple is Las Galeras Divers. You can snorkel from any of the beaches or join one of the trips on offer from the dive shops in Las Galeras.

Fishing

Whether you are a seasoned sports fisher or a novice who has never cast a line before, the warm and crystalline caribbean waters are the perfect spot to enjoy fishing. They are home to a miriad of tropical fish, including Grouper, Cod, Dorado, Barracuda, Black Kingfish, Swordfish, Shark and the occasional Marlin.

Los Haitises National Park

One of the largest and most biodiverse national parks in the Caribbean is right outside of our doorstep. The impressive mangrove forests, a rich variety of birds and ancient caves are all on the menu when you book an excursion with one of the numerous tour operators in Las Galeras or Samaná. Joël et Ludi is a highly recommended local tour operator.

Beaches

Las Galeras has some of the most beautiful white-sandy beaches in the Dominican Republic, largely undeveloped and free of other tourists. Some are within easy reach on foot or by car (Playa Las Galeras, La Playita, Playa Rincon, Playa Colorada), while others are best reached by boat (Playa Fronton, Playa Madama).

ATV Quad Riding

For a thrill-ride, hop on an ATV Quad Four-Wheeler and discover some of the beauty of this area at a faster pace. Ride along the pristine beaches and through the jungle, roaring your way past local settlements. All tour operators in Las Galeras offer ATV excursions.

Buggy Adventures

Sun & Sea Adventures offers half day or an entire day buggy excursions. Discover dirt roads with fantastic views, luxurious vegetation, river crossings and local rural life. Thrills and sensations guaranteed!

Boat Rental

Enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean from the water in the privacy and freedom of your own rented boat. Sun & Sea Adventures in Las Galeras offers boat rental with a choice of several boats, depending on the size of your party and how luxurious you want to travel. Many gorgeous places in the area are only accessible by boat, making a private boat excursion a unique experience.

Salto El Limón

Immersed in a lush tropical forest about an hour away lies Salto El Limón. An experience that will bring you over the edge of a breathtaking 55 meter waterfall. To add to the adventure, get there on horseback and take a dive in the refreshing crystalline waters of the natural pool.

Restaurants & Local Dining

Las Galeras has a few good restaurants that offer fine dining and several small eateries offering local dishes and drinks. On the main road you will find L’Aventura de John, El Pescador and Le BDM. If you want to combine fine dining with a breathtaking view of the ocean and a romantic sunset, head over to El Cabito.

Samaná and Las Terrenas

Only 45 minutes away from our home is the town of Samaná, where you can stroll along the harbor, do some souvenir shopping or stock up on some fresh produce at the local market.
For a bit more sophistication, head to Las Terrenas about 1 hour and a half away. Las Terrenas is more developed and a bit more upscale than Samaná. It offers a large selection of both local and expat restaurants, gorgeous white-sanded beaches (though with a stronger surf!) and more opportunities for shopping.
